DHL

DHL

There was a ring at my door. I saw that a man from DHL has come to deliver my parcel. I buzzed him in, we greeted each other with a ‘Hello,’ and once he handed me the parcel I thanked him. I was about to turn and close the door but I could not ignore noticing some kind of expression in his face. He was standing at the door trying to say something. He seemed to turn away from me and head down the stairs. But it was only his head that seemed to gesture that. So I asked him if there was anything else! He seemed confused but smiling he said something that I was not expecting. “You have a very nice smile there.” “Oh!” Well, I did not know what to say except thank him, smile and bid him a good evening.

I realized my smile continued even after he was long gone on his road. Sometimes it is good to speak more than just a ‘hi’ and ‘thank’ you like an answering machine. Even answering machines speak more than that. The DHL man did not mean to harm me. Though all I said after his complement was just ‘oh’ and ‘thank you’ it was totally different from the usual scenario. I could feel it brought smile to both of us.
